The physical therapist was great! The point of these weekly sessions is really to teach me how to work with Noel on a daily basis. We started out just playing with toys and letting Noel get used to the physical therapist and letting the physical therapist see what Noel can and cannot do.
The things we are working on for now are having Noel practice kneeling. To do this, she suggested putting a couch cushion in front of Noel with a toy on it and helping Noel get into a kneeling position to play with the toy. The idea is that Noel will start to want the toy so bad that she will start to get herself into the kneeling position. Unfortunately, if my child can't reach something she just gives up on it. So I have to help her into the position.
Yes, that is my hand holding on to her cute little bum. If I let go, she falls. So, she needs some support to workout those hips and legs!
We are also working on Noel's hips and legs by sitting her on the couch cushion, with her hips and knees at a 90 degree angle, and getting her to bend down at the waist (putting weight on her legs and feet) to pick things up.
I have to use my phone as an incentive to get her to do these activities.
I am also supposed to be helping Noel when she is on her belly and pushing herself around the floor. I just give her something behind her, like my arm or leg, to push off of. She only uses her right leg for now to push with, so we are encouraging that left leg to work hard as well!
Well, that is all I have to share about physical therapy for this week! Hopefully I can update you all weekly on her progress and new activities that we are trying!
I'm glad physical therapy went well. I know you were concerned because she couldn't remember her name :) Looks interesting too. Simple things I wouldn't have thought of, ya know?
ReplyDeleteI was definitely much more impressed with her in person! She called Noel the right name the entire time! YAHOO! :)
