We took Noel to be evaluated by a county program called Infants and Toddlers. This program is free and is basically the county trying to make sure that all kids are ready to enter Kindergarten eventually! So, Noel was evaluated by 3 very nice ladies! They checked her out on all sorts of skills. She passed with flying colors on everything except her gross motor skills. Noel's gross motor skills are that of a 6 month old. So she is 6 months behind where she should be. They said that this delay is due to the fact that Noel is EXTREMELY flexible. She can get herself into the splits and put her head on the floor. Guess it's time to sign Noel up for gymnastics or dance class! Kids who are extremely flexible have a hard time getting their muscles to do what they need to do to walk or crawl.
So, Noel DEFINITELY qualifies for physical therapy! We are still waiting for that process to begin. Tomorrow we will fill out paperwork and hopefully be assigned a physical therapist.
With all that said . . . today Noel started to make a little forward progress while playing on the floor! YAHOO! Before you see the video of that, let me show you something else Noel did for the first time today!
She wore her hair in a pony tail!
While she doesn't look thrilled at all, it's actually just that she is upset that I asked her to stop playing to look at the camera!
She hasn't touched it at all!
So, just after putting her hair up in a pony tail, I took Noel downstairs to the basement to play. With the help of my cell phone as an incentive - she started to push herself in a forward motion! YAHOO! She still hasn't figured out how to get her knees up under herself to crawl, but hey . . .we have progress! Maybe her bangs were in her face so she couldn't see to move forward?!?!??! Hehehehe!
Go, Noel, go! Hopefully she will start physical therapy soon and will be walking before we know it! :)
I noticed her nearly splits in a few other pictures. Interesting that that may be making it more difficult for her. But she is doing things in her own time. I also love that when she DOES get the phone, she totally knows what to do with it :)
ReplyDeleteShe is a wiz with cell phones. Although a babysitter now has lost her facebook app and has a shark app suddenly! Watch out for Noel's quick fingers!
