Explosions!?!?!

[First, let me preface this entry by saying a newborn does not leave much time for blogging! Between changing her, feeding her, trying to figure out why she is crying, and napping when she is napping . . . I am lucky if I find time to brush my teeth! But, I will try and get a little better!]

I had no idea that a baby could be so explosive in so many different ways! Jason and I first got to experience the explosion that can happen when you are changing a baby's diaper and she decides she has to pee or poop again. YIKES! We quickly learned to put a clean diaper under the dirty diaper so that she is never left without protection. She can explode poop across the room in an instant! At first all you can do is laugh, then you realize you have to clean her up, you up, and the room up.

The next explosion is through my daughter's gas abilities! She is the gassiest baby I have ever seen/heard! Those of you that have already visited and held her while she passes gas can agree!

The next explosion happens when you give an infant medicine. It is not a happy experience for any of us! Through this tiny syringe, I shoot this liquid medicine in to her mouth and pray that she swallows, which half of the time she does not and she just holds it in her mouth. Then, just when you think she has swallowed it and you let her head go, she spits it out of her mouth and it coats the wall. This explosion is sticky and again no fun to clean up!

The final explosion happened last night. I had just fed Noel and I was burping her . . . a pretty common event around here. Now, I have found out that we have a spit-up queen. She spits up all the time! So I was expecting to see a little spit-up while I was burping her. Jason had just walked in to the room and then . . . it happened! You know when you see a cartoon and they spit something out and it projectiles across the room.  Well, last night Noel projectile vomited/spit-up across the room. It exploded out of her and coated me, the boppy, landed on the rocking chair and the carpet. Poor Jason just stared in amazement, then grabbed the changing pad to try and mop some of the mess up. We just sat there laughing - I'm sure Noel did not enjoy us laughing at her after she just threw up! She slept really well after that, it must have exhausted her!

Hopefully I don't have any more additions to this entry of explosions - I think we have experienced enough! All of these scenarios, plus the fact that sleep with a newborn is a myth, may be the reason why when people ask me, "isn't being a mother just the greatest thing in the world?" that I roll my eyes at them. At this point, being a mother is a dirty and tiresome job - but like everyone keeps saying . . . it gets better - right?!?!?

Here is a little something to entertain you (at roughly the 11 sec mark):
