Our tiny bundle of joy joined us on Saturday, July 7, 2012 at 4:26 p.m.
I woke up Saturday morning at 4 a.m. with some pretty bad stomach pains. I decided quickly I was (1) dying, (2) had food poisoning, or (3) was in labor. During the morning the pains kept pretty stead at about 10 minutes apart. I called my midwife and she said to hang in there and to call her/head to the hospital when my contractions were 4-5 minutes apart and had stayed that way for about an hour. So, I paced around the house, watched a few musicals on DVD and waited. Around 1 p.m. I had one killer of a contraction. After that one, the contractions were 3-4 minutes apart. I called the midwife and Jason and I decided that after about 20 minutes we had to head to the hospital because the pain was pretty bad! Let me tell you, that drive to the hospital was NOT fun, but thankfully Jason was an amazing driver and got us there in record time. We parked the car in the parking garage, started walking towards the labor and delivery building and thankfully found some nice people to get us a wheel chair and lead us to the right place. When we got to the desk we checked in and they took me to triage to see what stage of labor I was in. Well . . . I was already 8 cm dilated and quickly loosing my chance for an epidural. They thought I would still have time, so they got me to a room. After just a little bit in the room, at around 3:00ish, I decided that I had to start pushing and that the epidural was not going to happen. I pushed for about 1.5 hours and at 4:26 p.m. we found out that the baby was a GIRL!
Jason was a lifesaver throughout the entire process! He was amazing!
Noel was born at 6 lbs 12 oz. After losing a little weight like all babies do, she came home at 6 lbs 5 oz. Tiny little peanut! She was 20 inches long. She had a little trouble regulating her temperature for the first few hours of life, but has adjusted well and is great now! Breastfeeding is going ok so far, we are learning together!
LOTS of pictures will be posted soon! That takes time and energy, which I have run out of at this minute! So you'll have to enjoy this low quality pic for just now! :)
What a perfect little peanut! Thanks for the preview of your birth story, too. It's shockingly familiar. :) I can't wait to meet her!
ReplyDeletep.s. I've had "The First Noel" in my head since Saturday.
She is perfect! I love how when you woke up your first thought was you might be dying! That really has given me the most real picture anyone has ever given me of what labor might be like. Congratulations Matusiak family! She is beautiful.
